What changes when a learner has the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution? Through volunteering and social action, learners can develop confidence, find a sense of purpose and begin to see themselves differently.
In this interactive workshop, Good for ME Good for FE and The Skills Network will introduce the Changemaker Programme, which combines practical volunteering with accessible digital learning and progressive Bronze, Silver and Gold recognition. Delegates will explore how the programme could complement their existing enrichment, tutorial and personal development provision and help make learner development and community impact visible.
Craig Tupling, Executive Director – Delivery and Quality at The Skills Network and Karen Oliver, Strategic Programme Manager/Good for Me Good for FE Manager will host this session at 10.30am

Tutorials should be a powerful space for personal development, employability, wellbeing, citizenship and student voice. Too often, they become a compliance-led, tick-box mechanism for covering statutory topics through disconnected weekly sessions. Using South Bank Colleges’ approach as a case study, this practical workshop explores how we are building more purposeful, coherent and engaging tutorial provision. Through discussion and practical activities, participants will share approaches, test ideas and collectively explore what effective tutorial practice requires of programmes, organisations and practitioners. Delegates will leave with an adaptable toolkit of review questions, planning tools and templates to support development in their settings.
Marissa Ferguson, Student Development Lead at South Bank Colleges and NAMSS Regional Lead for London, will host this session at 10.30am.

Through real-life examples, case studies and ready-to-use tools, delegates will gain strategies to strengthen tutorial support, improve learner outcomes and create a more inclusive culture.
Attendees will leave with practical resources and ideas that can be implemented immediately within their own settings.

Real progress and achievement happen when we focus less on delivering programmes and more on developing people. This engaging, practical workshop explores how to create the conditions where students feel safe enough to step outside their comfort zones, confident enough to challenge themselves, and valued enough to know they are seen and heard.
We’ll explore how curiosity can unlock potential, why being real matters more than being right, and how small changes in our approach can make a lasting difference. You will leave with practical ideas, fresh perspectives and strategies you can take back to base to inspire confidence and make a meaningful impact on your students’ lives.
