Investigations, hearings, appeals, inquiries
Did you know that the Court of Appeal recently changed your world?
- A recent Court of Appeal judgement may mean that you
can no longer run student disciplinary and complaints ‘appeals’
in-house. - Are you ready to make the necessary adjustments?
- Are you, or are you planning to be, a ‘new provider’ of
higher education?
Governors and senior staff of HE and FE institutions are often called upon to undertake staff or student grievances, appeals, investigations or inquiries. This is a complex area of work, requiring technical knowledge and expertise. Too often it is left to well-meaning amateurs to do the best they can or to apply common sense to the task. This can be an expensive mistake, leading to further grievances, appeals and costly litigation.
IDRAS is holding a training day for anyone involved in managing or undertaking grievances, appeals, investigations or inquiries. The day will cover both principles and practice.
It will equip interested governors and senior managers with the means of ensuring that disputes are resolved fairly and investigations and inquiries conducted appropriately and in accordance with recognised best practice.
It will offer a forum for discussion of the practical implications for institutions of the Kaur judgment.
The publication of the Woolf Inquiry into the LSE's relationship with Libya provides an important marker for institutions deciding whether to set up internal or independent inquiries. This adds to the important developments in the requirements of fairness for governors and senior managers hearing appeals and makes this a don't miss event.
